New Credit card with keyboard to prevent online fraud

In a bid to prevent online shopping fraud, US global payments technology company Visa's European arm has designed a new credit card which is complete with a keypad and digital number display.
The new Visa CodeSure card is of the same size as a conventional credit card but features a miniature keyboard and screen used to generate a constantly changing series of unique security passwords required to authorise purchases over the Internet, the 'Daily Mail' reported.
Head of Innovation at Visa Europe, Sandra Alzetta, said: "This exclusive Visa solution is an extremely convenient way to bring a similar level of security to payments online as we now enjoy on the high street.
"The solution goes beyond online and remote shopping but also allows organisations to use the card in place of other online log-in systems to access."
The card includes a 12-button keypad, a screen and a battery that will power the security system for three years.
The user will input their PIN on the keyboard, which will then generate a unique password, including letters and numbers, that will be typed into the web shopping store to approve a purchase.
The card can only be used by a person who knows the PIN and it will generate a new password each time an Internet purchase needs to be authorised.
Visa said the same card can be used to generate secure passwords to allow customers to access their online bank accounts. This avoids using the same password all the time.
Visa has worked on the card with Emue Technologies and has conducted trials in the UK, Italy, Israel, Turkey, Switzerland and Germany.

Kerala to get a new name - become " KERALAM"

After Bombay, Calcutta and Bangalore, it's now the turn of God's own country Kerala to get a new name. The state government is considering demands to rename the state Keralam. So, is this aimed at rediscovering the state's linguistic ethos or a populist move with an eye on upcoming elections?
Kerala, more than the name of a state, is a globally-renowned brand in tourism. Now God's own country is all set to get a new name. The government is of the view that the state's name should be written and spoken the way it is in the vernacular.
"We want to change Kerala to Keralam, which is the way it is in Malayalam. This is actually a rediscovery of our linguistic ethos," said state's Education & Culture Minister M A Baby.
The Opposition feels it is a move to divert attention from serious issues.
"The urgent need of the hour is to tackle growing communal violence and price rise. Instead of tackling these issues, the government is trying to divert attention and gain political mileage out of it," said Congress spokesperson M M Hassan.
Many believe the move is aimed at striking an emotional chord among the voters ahead of local body elections. But is the common man impressed?
"It really does not make any sense to me because it is just one alphabet that you are adding. And if that makes a big difference to the state, then I am surprised," said one of the residents of Kerala.
"First the government should bring down the price of fuel and essential commodities, then think if renaming the state is necessary or not," said another resident of the state.
The government is silent about the expenditure for this re-naming exercise. The change will have to be effected in the names of various government departments, websites and boards across the state, putting further strain on the exchequer. But the government says it's a burden that can be borne for the sake of reviving tradition.

Spain Won Fifa World Cup 2010 - beat Holland 1-0

Andres Iniesta broke the deadlock in the second half of the extra-time as Spain beat Holland 1-0 to win the FIFAWorld Cup for the first time.

Holland’s Heitinga was shown red card as Dutch down to 10 men in the crucial second-half of the extra-time against Spain.
The all-European World Cup final between Netherlands and Spain went into extra time with the score level at 0-0 in a bruising encounter after 90 minutes.
European champions Spain looked the more assured early on in the clash at Soccer City as a nervous-looking Dutch side ceded territory to their slick opponents.
Netherlands goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was forced into a diving save after five minutes when Sergio Ramos headed a Xavi cross goalwards while Spain forward David Villa crashed a volley into the side netting with the goal looming.
However, a series of free kicks and bookings, including two strong challenges by Dutch midfield enforcers Nigel de Jong and Mark van Bommel, shook Spain out of their rhythm.
The Netherlands battling approach meant the Spanish were unable to reproduce the swift-passing possession football that got them to the final.
The Dutch offered little in attack and the nearest they came to a first-half goal was a bizarre incident after 38 minutes when Gregory van der Wiel attempted to give the ball back in an act of sportsmanship.
The fullback's 60-metre punt bounced up and over Spain captain Iker Casillas, forcing the startled keeper to leap and tip it to safety.
The game continued in the same deadlocked vein after the break, with frequent stoppages and few chances, until Wesley Sneijder split the Spanish defence with a perfectly-weighted ball into the path of Arjen Robben after 62 minutes.
The winger bore down on Casillas and must have thought he had scored when he sent him the wrong way with a low shot but the keeper stuck out a leg and diverted the ball to safety.
Spain then began to take control, moving the ball forward more quickly and created two good chances.
First, a cross by lively substitute Jesus Navas reached Villa at the far post but his shot was blocked on the line, and then Ramos headed wildly over the bar from five metres out after being left unmarked at a corner.
Neither team has won the World Cup before though the Dutch are playing in their third final.

Two glass cubes were baited with mussels and marked with flags of Spain and Netherlands. And Paul went directly to the Spanish tank and ate its mussel.
Half an hour earlier, the octopus chose the mussel in Germany’s tank over the confines of those marked with the Uruguay flag.

Madani’s bail plea Rejected - July 09 -2010

Banglore - A fast track court here on Friday rejected the bail application of Kerala-based PDP leader Abdul Naseer Madani,

The PDP leader has sought anticipatory bail in view of the Bangalore police filing an additional chargesheet on June 11 listing him as an accused in the blast cases.

He was charged with visiting Laggeri in Somawarpet taluk in Kodagu district and participating in the conspiracy to commit the offence (blasts in Bangalore) along with 31 others who had also been chargesheeted.
Contending that he had never gone to Laggeri and was never a part of any conspiracy, Madani, in his application, had sought a direction to seek documents from Kerala police pertaining to his travel programme from 2007 as his movements were recorded by Kerala police.
A local court had last week issued a fresh non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Madani, ordering that he be produced before July 6. The fresh warrant was issued after he was not produced in the court on June 23 as per an earlier NBW.
He was among the six persons named in the additional chargesheet. Bangalore police maintain that it has enough evidence against Madani in the case. Twelve of the 32 chargesheeted are absconding.

Pregnant women should be given vitamin D supplements

All pregnant women should be given vitamin D supplements to safegaurd their babies' life, as lack of it could be life-threatening for a newborn.
Researchers say women who do not have enough vitamin D can experience complications in pregnancy which could be life-threatening for a newborn. It could also lead to the development of diseases such as rickets and other deficiency linked conditions.

Elina Hypponen, from the University College London Institute of Child Health, said providing women with daily supplements would 'reduce related serious risks to their babies'.

'The incidence of vitamin D deficiency in pregnant women in Britain is unacceptably high, especially during winter and spring,' telegraph.co.uk quoted Hypponen as saying.

'This is compounded by a lack of exposure to sunlight and the limitations of an average diet to meet the optimal need.'

'In the most severe cases, maternal vitamin D deficiency can be life threatening to a newborn.'

'We believe that the routine provision of a daily supplement throughout pregnancy would significantly decrease the number of mothers who are clearly vitamin D deficient, reducing related serious risks to their babies,' she added.

When asked as to why the management didn’t report the ragging incident to the police, the MD said that they were still enquiring about it. Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi activists and a large number of locals gathered at the hospital and demanded action against the school management.
Warangal MP Sircilla Rajaiah called on the nursing students, who told him that they had consumed sleeping pills unable to bear the harassment of the warden.
